As soon as the news came out, most UpWork freelancers started looking for alternative platforms to avoid having to lose their money or having to raise their prices.

How To Ditch Upwork, Fiverr & Find Work Without Freelance Platforms

how to ditch upwork and fiverr

Depending solely on marketplaces like Upwork to find work is one of the biggest mistakes you can make as a freelancer.

Why? Because you can’t trust these big corporate websites.

You’ll never know when a marketplace will change their platform fee, change the terms of service, or even ban your account for no reason.

Ditching Upwork and freelance marketplaces was the best decision I’ve made and it’s the reason why I was able to earn more as a freelancer.

I’ve included an entire chapter in my book, Freelance Like Pro, about ditching freelancing sites. But I wanted to shed more light on the topic through this article.

Most experienced freelancers will likely tell you not to rely on freelancing marketplaces to find work.

It’s good advice because those sites, like UpWork, pressure you to compete with other freelancers and lower your rates to win jobs.

But, the truth is, we all have to start somewhere and the chances are even the most experienced freelancers have used a freelancing site at some point in their career to score a project or two.

The first freelancing site I used was Elance (now UpWork). I didn’t get many jobs on this platform, but I used it to connect with clients and build long-term partnerships. At the time, there wasn’t too much competition on Elance so landing a job was easier than it is today.

Interview: Ben Coltrin, Founder of Remote Tech Jobs On Freelancing As A Programmer

Ben Coltrin interview

Coding or programming is one of the hottest industries in the freelancing market.

Coding is also one of the highest paying freelancing jobs right now.

I reached out to Ben Coltrin, the founder of the new tech jobs board Remote Tech Jobs, to pick his brain about what it’s like to work as a freelancer in the tech industry. As well as to talk about the best ways to get started as a freelance coder. He also shared valuable advice on how to impress your clients as well.

Even though Ben is now the CEO of Custody X Change, he’s a coder at heart. He started programming for fun in his high-school years and worked as a programmer at a local company before achieving so many great things.

His new startup, Remote Tech Jobs, aims to help fellow programmers by providing a curated board full of jobs in the industry.

Read the interview below for the full conversation.
