When working as a freelancer, finding ways to be more productive and efficient is the key to doing work effectively and making more money.
So I’m always on the search for new productivity tips and methods to find new ways to improve my daily routine.
I recently came across an interesting program on Mindvalley about a fascinating method for improving focus and productivity. I’ve been using this method and it’s quite effective.
This program is about utilizing the popular practice called The Silva Method and after going through this program I already found myself to be more focused and productive in my daily routine.
I wanted to share with you what I’ve learned about The Silva Method and why you should also practice it as a freelancer. Let’s dive in.
What Is The Silva Method?
The Silva Method is a mindfulness practice developed by Jose Silva in 1944 and popularized in the 1960s. Back at that time, meditation was a fairly new concept in Western countries so most people thought the Silva Method was about some kind of religion or about developing psychic abilities.
But at its core, The Silva Method is a meditation and mindfulness practice that when used right can enhance brain function to help make you more focused and energized to achieve things that you normally find to be difficult. Like learning a difficult math equation, finding solutions to problems, learning a new skill, or even finding inspiration for a client project.
Does The Silva Method Work?
The short answer is Yes! It does work!
Now, the information you can find online about the Silva Method varies. Some call it a holistic mind-control technique while others say it’s a scientific method to enhance your abilities.
I chose to believe the latter and it’s what The Silva Ultramind Mindvalley program led by Vishen Lakhiani teaches as well. The Silva Method does have a scientific background.
In simple terms, The Silva Method is about using active meditation to bring you into a relaxed state and then tap into the Alpha and Theta frequency of the brain waves. Also known as altered states. This allows you to read and learn things better. Do deep work. And, more importantly, it helps you to recall things better and enhances your memory.
After practicing this method for about two weeks I also found a noticeable improvement in my memory and ability to recall information that I learned in the past. So I believe The Silva Method actually works.
If you can find a way to look past the make-believe theories, there’s an actually valuable and effective methodology behind the Silva Method.
How The Silva Method Can Help Boost Productivity
There are many levels to practicing the Silva Method to achieve different altered states. But if you can simply achieve the Alpha state of your brain frequency, you will be able to be more productive and efficient in your day-to-day life. And that’s all you’ll need to be a better freelancer.
Do Focused Work
You can utilize the Silva Method to find better focus. As a person who sufferers from a mild case of ADHD, I always struggle to keep my focus on doing one task. I often get distracted. And after practicing the Silva Method, I’ve found that I get distracted less than I used to.
Learn New Skills
Retaining information and remembering what I learn is something that I always struggled with. Even moments after reading a book or watching an online course, I find myself struggling to remember what I’ve just read or learned.
The Silva Method has helped me improve in this area and improve my memory. I’m still practicing and I will share more details on this aspect in the future.
Do Deep Work
Whenever I come out of a session of meditation, I always find myself overflowing with creative ideas and inspiration. I’m actually writing this article after doing a quick meditation using the Silva Method. It gave me the idea to share this article with you.
If you often find it difficult to get inspiration for your projects, the Silva Method will definitely help you find clarity in your thoughts and creativity.
One thing I can confidently say about the Silva Method is that it has helped me a lot to manage my anxiety and stress. As a freelancer, you know how stressful it can be when you have to meet deadlines, reply to clients, and deal with criticism. Practicing the Silva method can be a great way to manage this more peacefully.
How To Use The Silva Method In Your Daily Routine
So how exactly do you practice the Silva Method technique? Start by tapping into the Alpha state of the mind. Later, you can master it to tap into Theta and Delta states. Here’s what you need to do.
Step 1: First, make sure you have about 20 minutes of free time dedicated to meditation. Make sure you don’t get interrupted during this time. Put your phone in Silent mode and tell your loved ones not to bother you for just 20 minutes.
Step 2: Sit in a comfortable position and cross your legs. This is to create a slight discomfort in your sitting position. It will prevent you from getting too relaxed and falling asleep.
Step 3: Use the 3-to-1 method to access the Alpha state. Rather than sharing this method in written form, it’s better for you to listen to the guided instructions from none other than Jose Silva himself.
Step 4: In the guided meditation video, you’ll hear a clicking sound. It’s in fact a sound that helps you access the Alpha state of the mind. Once your practice this further, you can use only this background sound to access the Alpha state without the vocal instructions. You can use this Binaural Beat sound in your sessions. As you progress further, you’ll be able to achieve this state even without the soundtrack.
Step 5: Include positive affirmations in your meditation sessions and visualize the things you want to achieve. While it may sound like nonsense, it will leave a footprint in your mind and memory. And it will encourage you to pursue your goals subconsciously.
Do this every day or every morning before you start work. After doing it for just a couple of days, you’ll notice a big difference in your productivity and efficiency.
Once you’re ready, you can take this a few steps further to access other altered states like Theta and Delta.
Accessing the Alpha state is only the base level of the Silva Method. There are other levels you can access using this method to achieve much greater results. It will help you not only be more productive but also help manage your stress and anxiety and heal your body.
The Silva Method will improve both your work and personal life. It will help improve your brain function, increase energy and focus, as well your health. While this may all sound too good to be true, I encourage you to just try practicing this method for a few days. You’ll see the results for yourself.
